Cape Fear River (Person Street Boat Ramp)
This wide, slow-moving river is full of largemouth bass, flathead catfish, and bowfin. Fish the deeper holes and around submerged timber using live bait or soft plastics. The river is stained and moody and ideal for a rugged river session.
Glenville Lake
Located inside Mazarick Park, this small city lake is stocked with catfish and holds bream and bass in its weedy edges. Great for beginners, especially during summer stocking events. The shaded banks and walking trails make it easy to fish all around.

Rhodes Pond
Just northeast of town, Rhodes Pond is a cypress-dotted lake fed by the Black River, home to good crappie and bass fishing. Paddle quietly between the trees or cast near lily pads and stumps. It’s hauntingly beautiful and full of old-school fishing vibes.
Lake Rim
A quiet suburban lake that offers solid shore fishing for bass, sunfish, and catfish. Popular with families and local anglers, it’s best early morning or late evening when the water cools. Fish close to downed wood or shady banks for best results.
