Charlottesville, VA
Rivanna River (Riverview Park Access)
Flowing right through the city, the Rivanna offers light current, deep pools, and productive eddies for smallmouth bass, sunfish, and fall-run catfish. Launch a kayak or wade near fallen timber and boulders for the best bites. It’s peaceful, wooded, and surprisingly wild for an urban river.
Chris Greene Lake
Located just north of town, this 62-acre reservoir is a local favorite for largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish. The clear water and abundant cover make it great for boat or shore fishing, especially near the main cove and fishing piers. Quiet mornings here often mean surface strikes and misty stillness.

Sugar Hollow Reservoir (Upper Moormans River Access)
Nestled in the Blue Ridge foothills, this cold, clear lake provides excellent spring-fed conditions for trout and the occasional smallmouth. Surrounded by steep trails and forest, it’s best suited for the adventurous angler on foot or kayak. Bring light gear and hike along the upper creek trails for trout-filled pools.
Beaver Creek Reservoir
Just west near Crozet, this calm and scenic lake is stocked with bass, bream, and the occasional chain pickerel. Electric motor only makes it ideal for kayak fishing along its many coves and shallow arms. Cast crankbaits near submerged structure for the best action.
