Laramie, WY
Lake Hattie Reservoir
Just 15 miles west of town, this 3,000-acre lake is a favorite for trout, walleye, and perch. Its windswept shoreline offers plenty of bank access, but boats have the best reach for big rainbows and browns. Expect windy conditions and wide-open skies—bring a strong cast and layered clothing.
Twin Buttes Lake
This smaller, lesser-known lake offers good numbers of stocked trout and is a peaceful alternative to Lake Hattie. The shoreline is undeveloped, with shallow flats perfect for fly fishing. It’s a great spot for a quiet day with light gear and few distractions.

North Platte River (Near Bosler)
Just north of Laramie, this stretch of the North Platte River holds wild brown trout and offers classic Wyoming drift-and-dry action. Wade into deep runs or swing streamers through slow pools under cottonwoods. The river here is cold, clear, and full of surprises.
Mirror Lake (Snowy Range)
A high-elevation alpine gem in the Medicine Bow National Forest, Mirror Lake is stocked with brook, rainbow, and cutthroat trout. Accessible from mid-summer through early fall, it’s best fished from shore with flies, spinners, or bait. Surrounded by peaks and wildflowers, it’s as scenic as fishing gets in Wyoming.
