Boise, Idaho
Boise River (Downtown Greenbelt Stretch)
Running right through the city, this section of the Boise River offers excellent trout fishing for rainbows and browns, especially in cooler months. Wade anglers can target riffles and deep pools near bridges and park areas using nymphs, streamers, and small spinners. Summer brings dry fly hatches and evening surface action. Public access is abundant, and you’re never far from a good cast.
Lucky Peak Reservoir
Just east of town, Lucky Peak is a large reservoir popular for boat and kayak fishing targeting rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, smallmouth bass, and perch. Troll deep diving lures for trout and salmon or cast near the shorelines for bass. It’s best in spring and fall, with cold, clear water and dramatic canyon walls. Marina access and day-use areas make it angler-friendly.

Quinn’s Pond
Located in Boise’s Whitewater Park area, Quinn’s Pond is stocked with rainbow trout and also holds bass and bluegill. It’s perfect for a quick cast before work or an afternoon with the kids. Float tubes, fly rods, and bait rigs all do well near the drop-offs and reeds. This urban pond is surprisingly productive, especially right after stocking events.
Arrowrock Reservoir
Further upstream from Lucky Peak, Arrowrock offers more solitude and rugged terrain with good fishing for trout, kokanee, and smallmouth bass. The steep banks and deep water require more effort but reward persistence. Fish from boats or by hiking down to coves and points. It’s remote, wild, and full of potential.
