Just south of Marietta, this stretch of the Hooch features clear, cold water flowing from Buford Dam make it an ideal habitat for rainbow and brown trout. Wade-fishing is popular here, with rocky shoals and riffles providing natural trout habitat. Bring flies, spinners, or salmon eggs and work the seams at dawn.
Laurel Park Lake
A small but stocked freshwater lake in Marietta’s Laurel Park, this is a great spot for catching bream, catfish, and small largemouth bass. Easy shore access, picnic tables, and playgrounds make it a favorite for families and casual anglers. Best bites come near the lily pads and shade trees.

Sope Creek (Paper Mill Ruins Area)
This historic tributary of the Chattahoochee flows past the remnants of a Civil War-era paper mill, offering light tackle fishing for bream and bass in scenic, shaded pools. The water is clear and cool, and the creekbanks are lined with boulders and ferns. It’s more about the beauty than the size of the catch here.
Lake Acworth (Proctor Landing Park)
Just a short drive west of Marietta, this electric-motor-only lake is known for good crappie and largemouth bass fishing. Submerged stumps, docks, and creek arms give anglers plenty of structure to work. It’s a peaceful setting ringed by tall pines, perfect for a quiet cast.
