Columbia, MO
Twin Lakes Recreation Area
A well-kept city park pond that’s stocked with catfish, bluegill, and trout in cooler months. It’s a favorite for families, with shore fishing, benches, and nearby walking trails. Try bait near the drop-offs or small lures near inflows.
Stephens Lake Park
Set just east of downtown, Stephens Lake offers shoreline fishing for stocked trout (seasonally), catfish, and sunfish. Bring ultralight gear or a bobber setup for best success. The lake is especially good for teaching kids or sneaking in an after-work cast.

Finger Lakes State Park (about 20 minutes north)
A reclaimed strip mine turned off-road and fishing haven, this park has multiple lakes and ponds stocked with bass, crappie, catfish, and sunfish. The water is clear and loaded with structure—ideal for float tubes, kayaks, or adventurous shore casting.
Missouri River (Eagle Bluffs Access Area)
West of town, this wide, muddy stretch of the Missouri offers classic river fishing for blue catfish, flatheads, drum, and the occasional paddlefish. Use heavy gear, cut bait, and fish deep holes near current seams and structure. It’s remote-feeling and full of big potential.
