Located within a wooded city park, Lake Chapman is a 260-acre lake filled with largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish. Shoreline access is plentiful, and boat rentals are available for deeper exploration. Early morning and dusk see the most surface activity.
North Oconee River (Cook’s Trail Area)
This slow, winding river offers a peaceful setting for bank fishing and wading, with catches of spotted bass, redbreast sunfish, and the occasional bowfin. Overhanging limbs and root tangles provide plenty of ambush cover. Great for ultralight tackle and a few hours of solitude.

Memorial Park Lake
This small lake tucked inside a downtown park is stocked with bream and catfish making it ideal for families, beginners, or those just looking for a quick cast. Ducks and turtles share the water, and the vibe is as chill as it gets. Bring a folding chair and watch the bobber.
Bear Creek Reservoir
A 505-acre reservoir just outside Athens, Bear Creek is known for solid bass fishing, particularly in spring and fall. Anglers favor spinnerbaits along points and jigs near structure. The water is stained, the banks are wooded, and the fishing is excellent from kayak or small boat.
