Picking the top five out of so many good fishing lake in the state is not an easy task. Here are 15 of the awesome lakes you have to choose from in PA. Salmon, walleye, crappie, catfish and bass are the most popular species in the state, but there are more than a dozen other species that thrive here as well.

#1 - Raystown Lake

At nearly 30 miles long with 100 miles of shoreline, there are plenty of places to search for fish in this 8,000-acre lake. It is a great fishing, boating and outdoor recreation destination. Bass, catfish, crappie, walleye, trout, salmon, striped bass and muskie are popular fish species here. There are plenty of campgrounds and amenities to enhance your stay.

#2 - Blue Marsh Lake

This day use only lake is open to boats of all types, and offers excellent outdoor activities, especially fishing. The most popular fish at this 1,150-acre lake are bass, crappie and muskie, but striped bass, catfish, walleye and perch are worth pursueing. Because of the day use only restriction, the lake gets considerably less fishing pressure than other local lakes, so fishing is often very good.

#3 - Lake Ontelaunee

This 1,100-acre lake in the southeast part of the state does not allow boating. Ice fishing in winter and bank fishing in warmer weather are the only options to catch fish here. Fishing pressure here is low, which improves catch rates for those who wet a line. For bank or ice fishing, live bait works well. Always check regulations before using live bait.

#4 - Lake Arthur

Lake Arthur in Western PA

The main attraction at Moraine State Park is 3,200-acre Lake Arthur and all the water activities associated with the lake. It is a warm-water lake with nice populations of bass, sunfish, crappie, wipers, muskie and northern pike. Numerous boat launch ramps and several camping options are scattered all around the lake. There are fishing piers and fishing peninsulas which are ideal for kids.

At 17,000 acres, this is the largest impoundment in PA. It straddles the PA-OH border and contains healthy schools of bass, walleye, muskie, crappie, perch, catfish and sunfish. Marinas, rental boats and camping are all convenient and open to the public. Ice fishing is popular in winter when there is safe ice.
